Good base weights but pins won't fit

We needed these as we had bought a cantilever parasol and these you could fill with water or sand.
The 4 separate pieces were easy to fill with water (there is an screwable cap on each base) but we just couldn't get the sand in. The sand we bought was wet and clogged up too much to be able to go down through the supplied pvc funnel and the neck of the filling part on each base piece is too narrow to be able to spoon it in without getting the majority of the sand on the floor.
I would have preferred to have used sand rather than water for the weight but I'll either have to buy some play sand rather than builders sand, but it has been holding the parasol stable enough with just the water.
The base pieces fit around the legs of the parasol base fine but the supplied stability pins won't fit and I'm not sure why as this is supposed to be a universal base for a cantilever and was shown to be the one most purchased with the parasol itself, so it's bit strange that they won't fit through as there is nothing odd or different about the parasol base than any other one.
Regardless of the above it is holding the parasol steady.
