Not bad for the priceI had rented a large aerator driven by a petrol engine but it was faulty so I needed to get something in a hurry. This item cost about 15% of the RENTAL cost of the petrol aerator! So I was not expecting that much to be honest. This product kinda lived up to those expectations.;You need to ensure the soil under your lawn is watered and soft and you need to fill the product with sand and even then you need to push down hard for it to work. A T bar handle would have made this much easier.;All in all, it’ll do what it claims if you put the effort in but the holes are very shallow. However, it’s inexpensive so it gets 4 stars from me.

Definitely worksDecided to restore my lawn which after a few years of neglect got taken over by moss. I have heavy clay soil that had become quite compact. I scarified using an electric rake to get rid of the moss but that rake didn't have an aerate function so was looking for a good aerator. Didn't want to spend loads so for under £50 this seemed decent. Also I bought the wider one with the 53 cm head. The product ships in a small box and everything comes packed inside the main drum. Instructions are easy to follow and if you've ever done any sort of DIY its easy to figure. It comes with everything you need including some small spanners which worked fine to get everything assembled. During assembly i filled it with pebbles from the ground. If you have a gravel drive or path 5-6 handfulls of pebbles should fill it up. Once full and assembled this thing is quite heavy. We had rain all afternoon so it was the perfect time to attempt this in the evening when the lawn was still wet. My garden has a sloping lawn and it was a bit difficult at first to push it a T handle would have been better to push with both hands. Pulling it seemed like a better idea. It makes holes that are not visible if you already have grass growing which is good. But i also tested it on a few bald patches to see if it wad doing anything and can definitely say it does poke right into the soil with its weight alone if your soil is wet and you have filled up the device with pebbles. All you need to do is roll it. I went both length and width wise over my lawn. Please wear good shoes as the spikes are really sharp and i ended up punching a hole in my toe nail accidentally as i was wearing slippers. Dont be me.;No product is perfect so here are the downsides;1) The drum already had spots of rust on the inside and the end that is welded shut had poor and scanty welding which I feel could fall apart eventually.;2) The handle bars should hsve been t shaped to enable people to pull / push with both hands;3) The handle rod should have screwed in to each other make it long as the current pin in hole mechanism means the rod feels flimsy and shaky when operating the device.;Otherwise great device highly recommend for those looking to aerate their lawns.

Does what it says on the tinFill it with stones and it’s v effective. And small enough to easily store. Mins the spikes and make sure you have wrench when putting the handle together. Wasn’t easy. But works perfectly well for the purpose.

SolidI wa somewhat sceptical when buying but very impressed when it arrived. Easy to assemble, Filled with sand and off you go. Looking forward to a stronger better lawn for 2026

Good for purposeI made a couple of disks from polystrene, inserted one down at the part welded end, filled it up with sand(you can use anything that is dense), inserted the other disk and then the metal end cap before attaching the device to the handle. It's easier to pull it rather than push it and by pulling you are not treading on the spike holes.

UndecidedFilling spikes was fiddly to do;The main issue was fitting the brackets to the handle, screws supplied extremely difficult to tighten, took me over 49 minutes for what should gave been a 5 min job;Still to see how this performs when used in the garden

Be prepared to buy other bits to get it to workBe prepared to buy more nuts and a pair of plyers if you only own one. Assembly is OK until the handle, then the nuts are so out of tolerance they turn twice and that’s it. Trip to B&Q for new nuts (£3) and using two pairs of plyers the handle attaches to the brackets. Solved I thought. Sadly not. It’s too lightweight to put a dent in the (pre-watered) lawn. Other reviews (including other sites) suggested getting the lawn suitably wet to increase the odds of success: nope. Others have mentioned adding sand: I’m not prepared to buy sand to find out. Why should I have to spend £7 in total to fix a £40 products. Once I’ve I unscrewed it all, it’s going back. Make sure you keep the packaging!
