I bought this for sitting up in bed as I suffer from back pain, and don't have a headboard.
It's very solid, for my needs it's too solid and I actually find it exacerbates rather than soothes my pain, but that's something that will - I imagine - vary very widely from person to person.
If you want something almost solid in feel, with very very little give, this will probably work well for you, but I like a bit of softness and cushioning and this is way too hard for me.
